Join Redwoods

The cost to join is currently $50 per month or $500 per year. Once you join, you’ll be locked in at that price. Membership fees are used to cover the cost of our tooling, administration of the community, and the occasional fun bit of swag.

What membership is like

Redwoods runs on a consistent but flexible rhythm. Each week has a loose structure, but we also leave room for spur-of-the-moment connections. Some folks are very active and others join in when their schedules allow. Here are the ways to show up.

Daily

We use Slack to hang out, catch up, and connect. There are channels for discussion, events, action groups, and a handful of other kinds of communication. We keep it professional, but try not to take ourselves too seriously.

Weekly

• Standup: Early each week, we share a success, a challenge, and what we’re working on in the weekly standup channel. This gives us the raw material for more intentional, design system-focused conversation.
• Weekly call: We join a one-hour video call every Tuesday at noon Eastern. Come to as many as you like, and volunteer to facilitate or demo. As we grow we’ll add calls and adjust for other time zones.

Monthly

• Take Root: Once each month, those interested are paired with one or two other members for a low-pressure, informal chat. This is just a way to continue to get to know each other.
• All-Redwoods call: The first Friday of each month at noon Eastern we get together on a big Zoom call. This is an opportunity to hear what’s happening, meet new members, and find opportunities to get more involved. We occasionally invite an outside expert in for an “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) for these calls.
• Action channels: Each month we run action channels for people who want to create something together. Each action channel has a primary goal, a (roughly) 30-day deadline, and an owner. These channels co-publish learnings, build tools and templates, create talks, and find other ways to share what we’re learning back with the community.

Quarterly

• The Redwoods Quarterly: We occasionally produce an online design system event covering the recent shifts in the DS space. It gives us something to work toward and a stage to share our biggest takeaways. A subset of Redwoods membership presents and everyone else attends free.

We have researchers, product managers, designers, ux-ers, developers…you name it. If you’re a part-time design system team of one, or one of 30 systems practitioners working at enterprise scale, Redwoods has a place for you.

Consultants and folks at product companies are welcome too, just know this is a space for mutual support, not sales.
